Indulge in a splash of Parisian history with this striking Absinthe Parisienne Poster. This piece, an extraordinary blend of mythology, culture and humor, represents the artistic richness of late 19th and early 20th centuries.

At the forefront, note the "Green Fairy," or "La Fée Verte", a colloquialism for absinthe, personified by an irresistible redhead, elegantly poised with a glass of absinthe in her hand. This captivating figure brings a playful audacity to the artwork.

Alongside her, we have the ironic figure Dr. Diafoirus, a character pulled from Molière's 17th-century play “Le Malade Imaginaire”, lending a comical touch with a nod towards the intrigue of pseudo-scientific 'elixirs'. The text, “Bois Donc, tu verras aprés,” adds an air of mystery, inviting the viewer to "drink and see afterwards."

This remarkable poster, a symbol of Paris' vibrant spirit, was crafted by the talented duo, Pierre-Henri Gelis-Didot and Louis Malteste, in 1894 for the Distillerie du Val-Roger à Villiers sur Marne and was presented to Paris through G. de Malherbe.
